Debenhams partners with homeware brand Maisons du Monde

Debenhams has announced a partnership with French furniture and home décor brand Maisons du Monde.

The department store chain will open three Maisons du Monde shop-in-shops at its Westfield, Birmingham and Manchester branches this Spring.

Maisons du Monde is already present here through an ecommerce platform, but this move will bring its decorative items and home accessories to the UK high street for the first time.

Debenhams chief executive Sergio Bucher said: “As part of our Debenhams Redesigned Strategy, we are looking to work with strategic partners that can deliver new and complementary product offers for our customers.

“We’re delighted that Maisons du Monde has chosen to work with us to launch physically into the UK. We believe that its fresh and differentiated ranges will reinforce Debenhams’ position as a major player in the UK homeware and furniture market under the leadership of our managing director of fashion and home, Steven Cook.”

Maisons du Monde CEO Gilles Petit added: “We’re pleased to announce a partnership with Debenhams to open three shop-in-shops in the UK, capitalising on a flexible and capital-light strategy to launch our physical development in this market to complement our online offer.”

Founded in 1996, Maisons du Monde has developed its business through an omnichannel approach, leveraging an international network of 313 stores in seven countries, a complementary online shopping website available in 11 countries, and several catalogues. It bills itself as ‘a creator of inspirational lifestyle universes in the homeware industry, offering distinctive and affordable decoration and furniture collections that showcase multiple styles’.

Debenhams trades out of around 250 stores across 25 countries and is available online in more than 60 countries.
