Currys PC World poised for biggest Black Friday yet

Currys PC World is set for a record number Black Friday sales today (November 25).

The news comes hot on the heels of the electrical retailer witnessing six million shoppers hunting for Black Tag deals since the launch of its 10-day sales event on Monday November 21.

The company said it is geared up for ‘an unprecedented number’ of online orders, with sales on mobile devices predicted to overtake desktop for the first time ever. 

Five orders are expected every second during peak shopping time as shoppers look to make the most of offers across thousands of products both online and in-store.

Around 30 million minutes of dwell time is predicted online, with 9,000 visitors to the website every minute at peak time, and the stores are expected to be the busiest between 12pm and 2pm.

Currys PC World is predicting several key sales trends for Black Friday 2016. It suggestions include:

*Premium coffee machines proved particularly popular last Christmas and they’re set to stay that way for 2016, with shoppers able to enjoy up to 50% of selected models.

*Across white goods, cordless vacuum cleaners and American fridge freezers are expected to be the most popular items, with over 20% more stock for Black Friday this year.

*Smart home product sales are expected to be 500% higher year-on-year, thanks to the introduction of products such as the Amazon Echo.

*Customer demand for 4K technology and their desire for even bigger screen sizes is expected to break new barriers. Sales of 4K TVs are already up over 40% year-on-year, with more mega-screen products available than ever before

*Laptops will once again prove a key category on the back of last year’s success, with a PC set selling every two seconds

*More than 20 fitness trackers and smartwatches will be sold every minute on Black Friday.

*Drones sales are also set to soar this year by 120% as they have boomed in popularity, while wireless headphones sales are set to continue to break records at +200% year-on-year.

Stuart Ramage, eCommerce director at Dixons Carphone, said: “Black Friday continues to be one of the key calendar dates of the year, with shoppers looking to snap up deals ahead of the festive season. There’s a sense of anticipation from our customers who have done their research and know what they want to buy once the deals go live.

He continued: “We’ve already seen a big rush for the Black Tag deals since they launched on Monday and expect this to continue right through to Cyber Monday as shoppers go online and in-store for the thousands of products on offer.”

A typical Black Tag deal is the Bosch  Tassimo Amia TAS2002gb Hot Drinks Machine in Black which was £69.99 and is now £29 (a £40.99 saving).
