Cookshop sales up 4% for John Lewis

Total sales for John Lewis for last week (to Saturday October 28) were £98.7 million, down 4% on the same week last year.

The department store group’s customer director Craig Inglis said Home sales were down 2%, primarily due to fewer promotions.

But lighting sales and Cookshop were positively impacted, with sales up 20.5% and 4.1% respectively. Furniture sales also grew 1.9% and Halloween products were up 19%.

He added that electrical and home technology sales were down 7%. Smart Home sales grew but there was lower demand for smartphones as customers await the new iPhone X, which goes on sale this Friday.

Fashion sales were down 1.9% due to unseasonably warm weather in many parts of the country, and a competitor promotion being run on fewer fashion and beauty products than last year.
