Christmas shoppers ‘will spurn poor-website stores’

Debenhams and Selfridges have been named as two retailers likely to lose out on Christmas sales this year because of a poor showing in the e-tail stakes.

Research by Conchango suggests that key reasons for online shoppers to abandon their “baskets” were the lack of a search facility, poor navigation and limited product information and availability. It also found that a number of high street retailers still offer no transactional website at all.

Debenhams and Selfridges both fall into the category of retailers likely to disappoint consumers going online this year to make Christmas purchases.

Websites destined to clean up during the festive season, according to Conchango, are those offering customer reviews, online order tracking and an obviously secure payment system.
