Canadian homewares giant targets the UK

The 71 Canadian HomeSense outlets are ultimately owned by The TJX Companies Inc, which is the umbrella for TK Maxx in the UK, Ireland and Germany, the US stores TJ Maxx, Marshalls, AJ Wright, HomeGoods and Bob’s Stores, and Winners of Canada.

Like the UK’s TK Maxx, HomeSense’s offer centres on designer products sold at discounts of 20 to 60%, and, again like TK Maxx, it introduces 10,000 new items every week. The housewares offer comprises cookware, kitchen knives, tools and gadgets, tableware, glassware and textiles, which is sold alongside home furnishings, decorative garden products and bedroom and bathroom lines.

The five new UK HomeSense outlets will open in the south east next year, with between 10,000 and 15,000sq ft of sales area.

TK Maxx already sells homewares as part of its mix and also has three TK Maxx Home stores focusing solely on cookware and kitchenware, tableware, glassware and furnishings. Sited in Kingston, Edinburgh and York, all are adjacent to standard TK Maxx stores.
