Amazon gets prepped for Prime Day

Online retail giant Amazon is preparing for its annual Prime Day, which takes place tomorrow (Tuesday, July 12).

The event is targeted at users of Amazon’s Prime subscription service. Prime members in the UK can shop thousands of deals from across nearly every category available on Amazon.co.uk, with new deals being offered as often as every five minutes.

Doug Gurr, managing director of Amazon UK., said: “Anticipation for Prime Day has been building. Over the last week, Prime members have been shopping great countdown deals, receiving surprise Prime Now deliveries from a heavyweight boxing champion, a star from ‘Gogglebox’ [channel 4 reality show] , and entering for the chance to win great prizes, like tickets to see Clarkson, Hammond & May’s ‘The Grand Tour’ being recorded.

“Now the anticipation is almost over and Prime Day is upon us. Prime Day is firmly establishing itself as a major summer deals day and we’ve worked hard to make sure we are offering our Prime members the lowest prices on even more great deals for Prime Day 2016.”

In addition to tens of thousands of Lightning Deals being offered as often as every five minutes, members will find curated Deals of the Day beginning at midnight. More deals on Amazon Devices will go live on the day. Home & Garden examples include over 35% off an Instant Pot Electric Pressure Cooker, 25% off a Black + Decker Sander, over 20% off a Karcher Window Vacuum Cleaner and up to 40% off Philips Hue Personal Wireless Lighting.

Thousands of Amazon Marketplace sellers, including small businesses from around the world, will be offering Prime Day deals on some of their most popular products at their lowest prices of the yea, such as a 25% saving on a Dyson DC19DB Multi Floor Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner.

“Prime Day is great for customers and sellers,” said Simon Johnson, director of seller services UK. “Customers have the opportunity to discover and support small businesses by purchasing products at a great price with unlimited one-day delivery, and it helps sellers prepare for the upcoming Christmas period by providing a peak sales day as well as customer reviews on new and top-selling products.”
